Margaret Moses Textile Collection
We are proud to present our fine selection of Navajo Textiles. Every piece is hand crafted by a Navajo weaver and comes with a 100% authenticity guarantee.
Navajo weaving is a primarily a generational art form, meaning that weaving techniques are passed down through a family from eldest to youngest. Traditional weavers fully invest themselves into the rug making process. They raise the sheep, sheer their wool then hand spin it into yarn all before the rug is even begun.
The designs for the rug often incorporate aspects of their life, familial background and the land in which they come from. These are just a few of the techniques and skills that an elder weaver would pass down to her children.
Unfortunately, in recent times weaving has become less and less practiced due to the need for a steady income. Depending on the size and design, a weaving can take anywhere from a few months to over a year to complete. Weavers cannot afford to live without a paycheck during this time, which is why they are choosing to abandon their unique art form to take jobs away from their homes.
Margaret Moses Branch has been collecting and studying weavings for over 25 years. She wants to share her knowledge, love and appreciation of this art form with others in hopes of bringing new life to the now dwindling art of Navajo weaving.
